8 Day Tour: 4(6) days riding, 2 days transfer

This is a semi supported ride (luggage is transferred between hotels, but cyclists need to be fully self-sufficient during the ride) with daily start times dictated by tides and distances to river crossings, this is a part of the country where time is not of too much relevance. Be sure to pack snacks and enough water for a 4 to 5 hour ride each day, the last day should take in the region of 6 to 7 hours to complete. All electronic equipment should be properly sealed in a good waterproof bag as there is at least one river crossing each day where cyclists will need to wade through waist to chest deep water.

Day 1: Arrive/Transfer and Bike Build

Please note that this tour includes transfers only from and back to East London, special arrangements need to be made for a transfer from Cape Town. A flight to East London airport where we’ll collect you is an option to get to the start of this tour too.

Day 2: Morgan Bay to Wavecrest Hotel – 26km (300m altitude gain)

After a short ride from Morgan Bay we board one of the few pontoon ferries in the country and cross the Kei River. Our adventure begins in earnest once we set foot on the far bank, the countryside here is rugged and infrastructure minimal.

Day 3: Wavecrest Hotel to Cob Inn – 20km (200m altitude gain)

We start the day with either a short two person row boat trip across the Inxaxo river, or for the adventurous a swim. The rest of the ride is on hard beach sand, cow paths and jeep track.

Day 4: Cob Inn Loop – 24km (650m altitude gain)

A fun but technical afternoon ride on some extreme 4×4 and motorbike trails.

Day 5: Cob Inn to The Haven Hotel – 38km (500m altitude gain)

Other than more pan flat beach riding, and cow path singletrack, the highlight of today’s ride is a great piece of adventuring on some animal trails through the Dwesa Nature Reserve.

Day 6: The Haven Loop – 20km (400m altitude gain)

We head a couple of kilometres inland and turn off the main road onto a jeep track that takes us into the Cwebe Nature reserve, through some dense indigenous forest, the short detour for a visit to the Banyane Falls is definitely worth the effort. We head back to the Hotel via the M’bashe lighthouse.

Day 7: The Haven Hotel – Hole in The Wall – 40km (820m altitude gain) or The Haven Hotel – Coffee Bay 51km (1200m altitude gain)

Today’s ride has the least beach riding, and a lot more jeep track, cow paths, and dirt road. The most natural option is to end the ride at the spectacular Hole-in-the wall with a cold drink or two, but for those bent on getting a little more riding in, the 11km trip to Coffee Bay is a lumpy dirt road trip with a hair raising drop down into town.

Day 8: Transfer back to East London
